Preventive Care: Dairy Cattle
    

These are general guidelines for preventive care measures that you should take to minimize disease or illness in your herd.

Note: From both health and implementation standpoints, vaccination programs work best when customized to your individual operation. For this reason, we recommend that you contact us to set up an appointment to discuss your vaccination schedule.

Required vaccines:
*
Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis virus (IBR)
* Parainfluenza-3 virus (PI3)
* Bovine Viral Diarrhea virus (BVD)
* Clostridial 7-Way
* 5-Way Leptospirosis
* Campylobacter fetus (Vibriosis)
* J-5 E. coli mastitis
* Rotavirus-Coronavirus-E. coli
* Pastuerella haemolytica
bacterin toxoid

Optional vaccines:
* Bovine papilloma virus (wart)
* Moraxella bovis ("pink eye")
* Salmonella dublin
* Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis virus (IBR) intranasal
* Rabies
* Brucella abortis (Brucellosis or Bang's vaccine)

Recommended procedures:
* Bull fertility testing pre-breeding
* Calf dehorning
* Removal of supernumerary (extra) teats
* Monitoring passive transfer: measuring blood total protein
  between two and seven days
* Hoof care: at least once annually, twice in some situations;
  and foot exam for any lame animal
